Disnovation.org in Helsinki
24 touko 2019 17:00 — 18:00
About the Presentation
The critical artist group DISNOVATION.ORG will be in Helsinki for an artist residency with m-cult in May-June to finalise their project The Web Politics Trilogy. During the residency, we will organise two public events with Disnovation.org founders Nicolas Maigret and Maria Roszkowska.
Progress, innovation, disruption and endless growth are cornerstones of our contemporary economies, social systems, even personal faiths and belief. The very pervasiveness and prevalence of these values require that we uncover, create and circulate counter-narratives and world views. How does the act of excavating the failures, aberrations and paradoxes of techno-science become a fruitful tactic to inform a better understanding of our technological society? What could be the performative powers of popularization of divergent models and technocritical stances? How could this contribute to complexify our views and inform our choices as a society in an era of rampant techno-solutionism facing paramount challenges like those of the Anthropocene?
At a time when news consumption is increasingly digital, the manipulation of public opinion over social media platforms has emerged as a critical threat to public life. Disinformation Camp is a 3 days intensive workshop with Aalto University focusing on the topics of computational propaganda and the influence of public opinion online. We will investigate this field through lectures, discussions, case studies, screenings and practical experiments. In the final event at Pixelache festival, Disnovation.org and workshop participants will share the workshop process with practitioners and audiences.
About the Artists
DISNOVATION.ORG is a working group based in Paris, initiated by Nicolas Maigret (FR) and Maria Roszkowska (PL). At the crossroads of contemporary art, research and hacking, the collective develops situations of disruption, speculation and debate, in order to challenge dominant techno-positivist ideologies and to stimulate post-growth imaginaries. http://disnovation.org/ #disnovation
The Disnovation.org residency is produced by m-cult in context of the European Media Art Platform EMAP, supported by Creative Europe. http://emare.eu/ #europeanmediaartplatform
